SD-WAN fits into a disaster recovery/business continuity plan and continues to become increasingly more important with the rapid adoption of cloud based software and infrastructure
Industry: Healthcare & Life Sciences Company Type: Clinical Research
The Challenge
This clinical research company has a global workforce of in-person, hybrid, and remote employees requiring a secure, fast, and reliable connection to corporate resources. Their existing network performance was not meeting their business needs, causing interruptions to conference meetings, phone calls, data transfers and offsite backups.
The Discovery
Boston BizTech discovered their existing solution was unreliable and not secure. Their mission-critical software would be frequently inaccessible due to old or unreliable network gear and internet outages with their one provider. Additionally, the network issues introduced jitter for video motion of ECHO and PET scans, making them almost unusable for remote Core Lab readers during times of high traffic. As a result, the Core Lab incurred costs from readers losing their work and troubleshooting issues, rendering the department unprofitable. Additionally, the company had a single internet connection to support a 24/7 mission-critical on-premises technology stack. Moreover, they lacked the knowledge to implement a resilient solution.
The Solution
Boston BizTech designed and then conducted network solution comparisons that met the client’s business requirements. We procured all the network equipment meeting the client’s budget requirements. We deployed next-generation firewalls with advanced threat protection, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, and endpoint protection for all employees. We also implemented a modern SD-WAN solution consisting of multiple ISPs, site-to-site VPNs for public cloud resources, and remote access VPNs for remote employees.
The Impact
The company now has a modern, secure employee connectivity architecture that allows for mission-critical applications that can be accessed remotely and securely 24/7 for the entire global workforce. Data transfers, phone calls and video conferences run without interruptions and offsite backups successfully complete overnight. The Core Lab’s productivity increased by 2x, eliminating re-reads of ECHO and PET scans, and is now a profitable service offering for the business. The company also successfully met its business requirements with the resiliency of automatic network failover from the SD-WAN implementation.
